Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Miss Wanderlust and Miracle Gel Top Coat Reformulation

Oh, hey there! It has been a while! I actually have a post today - with nail polish! I do apologize for the abrupt absence, but I felt the need to step back and focus on other things for a while. I have been working on my novel quite a bit and have hit the half way point to my word count goal! It's very exciting! I have also been doing the mom thing all summer long, full of play dates and park trips and a few excursions to a nice cool watering hole when the Texas heat just gets too much for us.

I'm not saying that I am back full force yet, but I am saying that I'm not gone for good either. In fact, I actually have some nail art on my digits and i am pretty stoked, you guys! But today's post is the standard swatch/review. Baby steps, right?!

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Miss Wanderlust

Miss Wanderlust is part of the Miracle Gel summer collection. It is a bright coral red jelly loaded with gold and silver holo glitters. You guys know how much I love coral! While I adore the look of the polish, the application was a bit problematic. Because of the massive amount of glitter jammed into that bottle, it was troublesome getting an even coat. I used two coats overall and that was plenty.

I topped it off with a coat of the new reformulated Miracle Gel top coat. The new formula is thicker and gives a more glass-like shine. One coat was enough to smooth out all that glitter! Unfortunately, that was the only positive I could find with the new formula. The old one I had no issues with at all. It cured fairly quickly and lasted for days before it chipped. The new formula was the exact opposite. After I applied the top coat, I went outside and let it dry in the sunlight (the top coat does require UV light to cure). It was dry to the touch in about five minutes, but it didn't completely cure until about 3 hours later. I managed to dent my thumb nail really bad from the kitchen counter later that day when I was cooking dinner! It also doesn't have the staying power as the original top coat. The day after I painted my nails, the polish started chipping at the cuticle line and most had chipped off by the end of the day.

While the color may be gorgeous, the formula and the new top coat are big fails in my book. I hate to have a negative review, but I gotta be honest with you guys!

Hope you all are having a great summer and don't forget to check out the Twinsie Tuesday application if you are interested in joining!
